Find-Her Mission in Kpando Lays Groundwork for Empowerment, Uncovers Alarming Trend
KPANDO, GHANA – The Somnia OSBRAIN FOUNDATION has concluded a significant phase of its Community Empowerment Series with a comprehensive "Find-Her Mission" in Kpando. The team's visit to local schools and clinics was designed to conduct a thorough needs assessment and lay the groundwork for a new, holistic support system for young mothers and girls. The mission team, in close collaboration with the community's public health sector and school authorities, worked to assess the on-the-ground efficiency of the Pregnancy Prevention and Re-entry Policy and better comprehend obstacles teenage mothers face. A key component was the collection of detailed data on pregnant girls and teenage mothers aged 10–23 to inform upcoming programs.
Urgent Call to Action
During the assessment, an alarming trend was uncovered: youths, including girls under 18, smoking while pregnant. This grave public health issue poses severe risks to both young mothers and their unborn children. The foundation is calling on authorities in and around Kpando to act swiftly and implement targeted interventions. The mission also forged new partnerships to provide menstrual health management education for girls and young mothers — a step toward a holistic approach to well-being and long-term empowerment.
